An Emerging Leader
An Established Leader
Story of The Book
Whether you’re a former student-athlete, an entrepreneur building a company, an executive leading an organization, a manager developing a team, or an aspiring leader preparing for your next opportunity, this book provides a practical framework for leading with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
The leadership framework is built around a few simple ideas:
1. The separation between those who consistently succeed and those who struggle is not talent, intelligence, experience or opportunity—It is how you operate.
2. Leadership is not a single skillset—it’s an operating system, often found in student-athletes.
3. The principles that create success in athletics are often the same principles that create success in leadership and in life.
The environment changes, but the operating system remains the same.
I wrote Student-Athlete to CEO after spending more than 25 years leading companies and realizing that the same foundational principles that shaped me as a student-athlete, became the foundation of my leadership as a multi-time CEO. From fourth-grade basketball through Division I athletics, and later more than a decade of coaching, I experienced firsthand how discipline, accountability, resilience, teamwork, and strong culture create lasting success.
Inside, you’ll learn:
How to develop the operating system that transforms athletic discipline into exceptional business leadership.
Why accountability, resilience, and adaptability separate exceptional leaders from average ones.
How to master the habits of high-performing leaders who consistently excel under pressure and through adversity.
Why building cultures of accountability, trust, and ownership inspire people to perform at their highest level.
Why former student-athletes are uniquely positioned to lead, and why companies consistently hire them.
How to lead with confidence and purpose while creating meaningful impact in your team, your company, and your life.
The book is organized into 6 chapters that guide you step-by-step. No abstract theory. Just a repeatable framework you can start using immediately.
Whether you are leading a company, building a business, or preparing for life after sports, the principles in this book will help you elevate the way you think, operate, and lead.

This isn't a motivation book or something simply written to inspire you. It is an operating manual every leader needs to read!
What Readers Are Saying
What stood out to me about Student-Athlete to CEO is how intentionally it moves from insight to self-reflection. The lessons and stories are valuable, but the reflection and self-work at the end of the chapters are where the book becomes personal.
The questions invite you to look honestly at how you handle adversity, where you invest your time, who you surround yourself with, what grounds you, and ultimately who you are becoming as a leader.

As a former student-athlete myself, I can say he nailed this. While students-athletes build these skills through their passion of sports, Trent does an amazing job presenting these tools in a consumable way for everyone with the desire to be a better leader.
This is a manual, not a motivational book. If you’re looking for incentives, there are plenty of books that try to provide that. For motivated individuals and leaders ready for an actionable playbook, this is for you!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve read a lot of leadership books. None have approached leadership from this angle, and it’s exactly what’s been missing.
This isn’t a motivational book. It’s an operating manual. Trent’s core insight, that you weren’t trained to compete, you were trained to operate, reframes everything. The six foundational behaviors of Athletic Discipline are clearly defined, and the CEO Playbook in every chapter turns them into real, actionable tools.

It’s real – and that’s what I like best!
It’s not theory from some ‘thought leader’, I like how this author has actually done this.
Good examples so far and real world work.
Appreciate the tone of voice as well. Readable and fun at times.
